Poni, an emerging force in the dark electronic scene, has unveiled Hellscape, her debut EP on HypnoVizion. The three-track project is a captivating exploration of torment and despair, blending midtempo basslines, haunting melodies, and evocative vocals to deliver a truly immersive experience.
Hellscape features collaborations with Satin Puppets on the eerie track “Leeches” and singer-songwriter Notelle on the deeply emotional “Leave You in the Dark.” Poni’s own vocals anchor the EP’s opening track, “Conceptual Reality,” showcasing her ability to craft narratives that resonate with listeners on a profound level.
According to Poni, Hellscape delves into universal themes through a gothic lens: “Calamitous times and places that are void of hope, Hellscape tells a story of three vastly unpleasant circumstances. Vengeance and how the murdered haunts the murderer. Heartbreak and being in a toxic relationship with a narcissist, ultimately leaving them to ruin their own lives. Despair and how lost and brainwashed society is. All of which are tied together by the sinister workings of Apep, the demon of darkness and destruction (my reimagination). Is there really no hope though? That’s up for interpretation.”
