“Without You” is Rio Romeo’s haunting new track—a reflection on loss and identity from “Good Grief”.
Rio Romeo offers a breathtaking meditation on grief and memory with their new single “Without You.” The piano-led ballad is out now and featured on their debut album Good Grief, coming July 18 via AWAL.
Known for genre-fluid compositions that blend musical-theater drama with punk edge, Rio delivers something deeply tender here. “‘Without You’ is one of the heavier songs on the record,” they share. “I wrote it about one of my friends who ended up dying in a suicide by cop incident… he’ll always be the same person, but that sameness also lives inside me.”
The vulnerability of the song is matched only by its purpose: to honor a friend lost too soon and explore how identity freezes in time.
Good Grief tracks Rio’s emotional journey across five years of hardship and transformation. From homelessness to healing from a traumatic accident, the album is both cathartic and hopeful.
Rio explains, “I want to be able to be that person for the many young Queer fans that I have… I hope that it makes one person feel heard and feel less alone.”
They’ll bring the record to life this fall on the Good Grief! Tour, kicking off October 2 with stops across North America.
With 713K TikTok followers and a viral catalog that includes “Nothing’s New,” Rio Romeo’s artistry continues to resonate through radical openness and human depth.
