Alt-rock artist Ria Rua explores the journey from fear to freedom in her new single “I Love That For You.” Watch the video now.
Ria Rua, the Irish alt-rock artist known for her bold and introspective sound, has released her latest single, “I Love That For You.” A blend of haunting vocals, moody melodies, and industrial textures, the song delves into the emotional journey of staying authentic in a world that often demands conformity.
Reflecting on the inspiration for the track, Ria says: “As a teenager music consumed me, but everyone around me thought my best option was to settle down, work at a shop, and marry a local farmer. It took years of constant struggle, with myself and with family and friends, to come to terms with my truth—I can only be happy being myself and living my life in a way that feels true to me. This song is about that journey, from fear to freedom.”
Raised in rural Meath, Ireland, Ria’s path to alt-rock stardom has been unconventional. From her early days disrupting her mother’s choir practice to becoming a sought-after drummer, her evolution as an artist is one of resilience and defiance. Her music speaks to young neurodivergent and queer individuals seeking their own paths of self-expression.
Ria’s previous singles, “You’ll Only Like Me When I’m Dead” and “I Want You,” have garnered critical acclaim, appearing on playlists like New Music Friday and earning radio airplay across Ireland, the UK, Germany, and the US. In 2023, she performed at Dublin’s Vicar Street, supporting Soda Blonde, and headlined the Musictown Festival.
With her debut album in progress, “I Love That For You” cements Ria Rua’s status as a trailblazing voice in alt-rock, offering a powerful message of individuality and self-empowerment.
