Nell Mescal releases “Carried Away,” exploring emotional uncertainty and musical growth.

Nell Mescal invites listeners into a moment of personal reflection with the release of her new single, “Carried Away.” This marks her first release since joining Atlantic Records and signals a new musical chapter following her debut EP Can I Miss It For A Minute?

Produced by Philip Weinrobe in Brooklyn, “Carried Away” channels the raw honesty of heartbreak and miscommunication. Mescal reflects on its meaning: “It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer. Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away.”

The process of bringing the track to life became a memorable moment of collaboration. Nell explained: “The demo of this vs the finished product is so different and it was so exciting to create in the studio. I played it with just me and a guitar for the band and after playing it once everyone joined in and it immediately became clear the direction we were headed in. Philip had some amazing ideas. We thought about doing a lyric change in the second pre chorus and he had the entire band play the same section over and over again while I wrote as quickly as possible…and it really elevated the song.”

The song’s accompanying music video was released in tandem, adding a visual layer to the narrative of emotional distance and disappointment. This latest release follows Nell’s performances at Somerset House’s Summer Session and TRNSMT Festival. With more shows ahead—including Reading & Leeds and Newcastle’s Come Together Festival—her momentum continues to build. A larger UK tour is expected toward the end of 2025.
