Michal Gutman approaches music as a space for exploration, construction, and emotional inquiry. Performing as a one woman band, she creates an intense solo act using bass guitar, a loop station, two microphones, and a touch pad synthesizer. This setup allows her to layer sound with intention, building compositions that evolve organically during performance.
Her current singles project reflects this approach. Rather than releasing a full album at once, Gutman is sharing individual songs over time, giving each piece its own presence. The project’s title track, ‘War boys’, is the second release and became available in September 2025, marking an important moment in the project’s progression.
Gutman’s sound is described as a patchwork of harmony and disharmony. It moves between theatrical cabaret, the narrative energy of an 80’s dance floor, and the softness of a dreamy soundtrack. Polyrhythmics and contradicting loops are central to her process, allowing her to push sound boundaries while maintaining emotional focus.

At its core, the project continues Gutman’s research into identity during catastrophe. She reflects on personal grief alongside society’s grief, and considers how beauty can exist within those shared experiences. These themes are woven into the music itself, offering space for interpretation rather than direct explanation.
The singles project follows Gutman’s first solo album, “Never Coming Home”, released in 2024. It also builds on her extensive experience with Whaling Snails, the band she toured and recorded with for over a decade, releasing “Songs For Yael” in 2015 and “The Wind Around Your Heart” in 2019.
Through ‘War boys’ and the releases that follow, Gutman continues to articulate a clear and focused artistic voice. The project stands as a reflection of her commitment to sound exploration, storytelling, and thoughtful musical development.
