Vevo’s Footnotes honors 30 years of Mariah Carey’s holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Mariah Carey has teamed up with Vevo to celebrate three decades of her legendary holiday anthem, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” The song’s enduring legacy is explored in a new Footnotes episode, which takes fans behind the scenes of the “Make My Wish Come True Edition” music video.
The video, directed by Joseph Kahn, pays tribute to the glamour and elegance of Hollywood’s golden age, inspired by Busby Berkeley’s classic musicals. Mariah shares insights about the challenges of filming, particularly the intricate choreography, admitting, “Dancing is not my forte.” The centerpiece sequence, featuring dancers on elevated platforms behind Carey, required extensive shooting from multiple angles to achieve its dazzling effect.
Special guests make the video even more festive. Mykal-Michelle Harris stars as a young Mariah, which Carey described as a heartfelt nod to her childhood: “She represents little me and all the kids who love Christmas!” Monroe and Moroccan, Carey’s twins, also bring their cheerful energy, while her dog, Cha Cha, continues her tradition of including beloved pets. Director Kahn’s daughter, Josie, makes a memorable appearance as an angel popping out of a present.
With over 18 million copies of Merry Christmas sold, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” remains one of the most successful holiday songs ever. Its 2023 success on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #1 for the fifth consecutive year, reinforces its lasting influence and festive magic.
