Lexa Gates reflects on desire and delay in “Latency,” out now with a surreal new video.
Lexa Gates opens up emotional territory in her new single “Latency,” released via Capitol Records. With producers Jasper Harris and Aaron Shadrow at the helm, the song floats through hypnotic soundscapes built on Hamilton Bohannon’s classic “Tell Me You’ll Wait.”
Featuring Lexa’s sultry vocal style and vivid lyricism, “Latency” explores the friction between attraction and inaction. Her lyrics, including the standout line “I got ideas of you, making moves on me, what’s with the latency?” strike a chord with listeners navigating the gray area between fantasy and fulfillment.
Describing the track, Lexa explains: “a sexy fantasy of a love left on delay. Waiting for a text back, or a move to be made.” She continues, “I got in the studio late night with the GOATS. From New York to LA. Being around all these rich older men sparked a curiosity in me. It’s a tale as old as time.”
The music video, directed by Ganna Bodgan, brings that theme to life through whimsical and cyclical visuals. Lexa carries an oversized bag—symbolizing desire and emotional weight—through a series of surreal settings. The fantasy ultimately collapses, leaving her where she began.
The single follows her high-concept art installation Elite Vessel in NYC, where she spent 10 hours inside a glass enclosure. Viewed over 300 million times, the piece deepened her connection with fans and elevated her as a multi-dimensional artist.
