Acclaimed composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lettie unleashes her sixth studio album, “Pirate Lover,” intertwining personal reflections with musical exploration. The album features nine dreamy tracks largely crafted in her home, reflecting the brief moments she carved out between her daily responsibilities supporting a notable ex-politician, prisoner, and priest.

The narrative of “Pirate Lover” digs into Lettie’s life experiences, encompassing themes of nostalgia and resilience. It deals with profound topics including a near-death experience, familial struggles with gambling addiction, and the significant transformation of her childhood environment through the construction of a vast new power station. These challenges are met with an uplifting counter-narrative of love found in an unexpected relationship with an ex-racing car driver, adding a rich emotional underpinning to her music.

One distinguishing characteristic of the album is Lettie’s choice of a stripped-back, intimate production style. Embracing unconventional instruments, she eschews the often impersonal nature of modern recording techniques. Inspired by the works of Molly Drake and classic Blues artists, Lettie commenced her creative process at her kitchen table with an acoustic guitar. Collaborating with musicians like Dave Barbarossa of Bow Wow Wow and Adam Ant fame, she cultivated a raw and pastoral sound that stands in stark contrast to polished commercial productions. The mixing of “Pirate Lover” was skillfully executed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Cameron Craig, further elevating the album’s unique sonic landscape.

Lettie’s musical journey began in Suffolk, where she attended school with Ed Sheeran. This connection eventually led her to pivotal moments in her career, including performances at notable venues like Maida Vale and Glastonbury. A chance meeting on Myspace in 2008 with David Baron resulted in collaborative recordings at the historic Edison Recording Studios in Times Square, producing her first two albums, “Age of Solo” and “Everyman.”
