Grace VanderWaal shares ‘Babydoll,’ an energetic new single featuring Aliyah’s Interlude, signaling her next artistic era.
Grace VanderWaal returns with “Babydoll”, a lively, attitude-filled pop anthem featuring Aliyah’s Interlude. The track’s playful nature contrasts with her recent introspective single “What’s Left of Me”, showcasing her artistic range. Accompanying the release is a Sophie Hur-directed music video, adding a dynamic visual to the song’s bold energy.
Reflecting on the song’s inspiration, VanderWaal shares:
“In the studio, we were talking about acting bratty, going out, wanting everything, and being a diva. Tiffany Stringer and I had the idea to write a song from our alter ego’s perspective. We named mine Baby Doll: who doesn’t like to be told no. I had an amazing time writing and creating it.”
Her 2024 milestones include an unforgettable Kennedy Center Honors performance and a role in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, which premiered at Cannes to widespread acclaim.
Since the release of her 2016 EP Imperfectly Perfect—the best-selling EP of the year—VanderWaal has continued to grow as an artist, later releasing her full-length debut Just The Beginning and touring with Florence + the Machine and Imagine Dragons. She has also received industry recognition, including the Billboard Rising Star Award.
Now stepping into a new independent era, VanderWaal is shaping her sound and career on her own terms.
