Across Uganda’s growing tech landscape, a powerful narrative is emerging—one where education, innovation, and ambition intersect. At the center of this movement is Educating The Children’s Code Queen programme, where graduates are engaging with artificial intelligence not as a challenge, but as a creative and strategic opportunity.
As global leaders discuss the implications of AI on the workforce, including projections about automation in white-collar roles, the response from Code Queen participants offers a grounded and forward-thinking perspective. Rather than focusing on disruption, the programme emphasizes readiness and adaptability.
Educating The Children, founded in 2009, has supported over 6,000 young women across East Africa. Its Code Queen programme, introduced in 2019, was built to connect academic knowledge with real-world technology skills. With nearly 1,000 graduates to date, the programme has consistently enabled participants to transition into employment or entrepreneurship.
The launch of a dedicated AI course in 2025 has added a new dimension to this journey. Covering areas such as prompt engineering, automation workflows, AI-assisted design, and digital entrepreneurship, the curriculum is designed to develop both technical expertise and strategic thinking.
This shift has resonated strongly with prospective students. Applications have doubled since the introduction of AI training, reflecting a growing enthusiasm for engaging with emerging technologies.
Through this approach, Code Queen graduates are not only adapting to change but actively shaping how AI is understood and applied within their communities.
