Folk B*tch Trio unveil “Cathode Ray,” a vulnerable new track from debut album “Now Would Be A Good Time”, out July 25.

Melbourne/Naarm’s Folk B*tch Trio—Gracie Sinclair, Jeanie Pilkington, and Heide Peverelle—announce their long-awaited debut album Now Would Be A Good Time, releasing July 25 on Jagjaguwar. They’ve also shared a new single, “Cathode Ray,” accompanied by a striking visual.

Built on swirling harmonies and ambient minimalism, “Cathode Ray” dives into the depths of bodily frustration and emotional entrapment.

“It expresses a feeling of being trapped in myself,” says Sinclair. “And wanting to break out of that so violently that I’m literally talking about opening up a body viscerally.”

The song follows their breakout single “The Actor,” which earned high praise from Rolling Stone and Beats Per Minute.

The trio recorded the album in Auckland with Tom Healy, keeping arrangements sparse and intimate. Their distinct musical voices—Pilkington’s roots influence, Peverelle’s tactile aesthetic, and Sinclair’s theatrical sensibility—unite in a sound that’s deeply personal and emotionally rich.

Having already supported acts like King Gizzard, Julia Jacklin, and Alex G, the band has built a passionate fanbase across Australia, Europe, and the U.S..

They’ll return home this September for a headline tour across Australia and New Zealand, bringing Now Would Be A Good Time to life on stage.
