Ruger’s BlownBoy Ru explores identity, evolution, and genre-fluid sound on a global scale.
Ruger’s second studio album BlownBoy Ru is more than a follow-up—it’s a self-assured step into creative freedom. Released via Promised Land Records, the album blends Afrobeats, R&B, dancehall, amapiano, and Fuji across 15 tracks that speak to the artist’s evolution and growing global reach.
“With Ru The World, I was proving a point,” Ruger shares. “But on this album, I feel more comfortable in my artistry… I just let myself be free.”
That freedom radiates throughout the album, from the pop-dancehall hybrid “DuDu” featuring Kranium, to the viral success of “Toma Toma” with Tiwa Savage, and the trap-edged “Give Away” featuring Zlatan. “Jay Jay,” a vibrant nod to Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha, has already exploded across TikTok.
Named a Spotify Global Artist to Watch for 2025, Ruger is also up for a MOBO Award for Best African Music Act. In February, he delivered a standout BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge debut, further cementing his artistry on a global stage.
The COLORS performance of “Toro” offered a raw, stripped-down glimpse into the album’s emotional landscape.
From heartfelt lyrics to festival-ready rhythms, BlownBoy Ru balances introspection with ambition. This spring, Ruger brings the album to life across a US and EU tour, before returning to UK stages in September at Manchester’s O2 Ritz, Birmingham’s O2 Institute, and London’s Indigo at The O2.
For Ruger, BlownBoy Ru is not just a sound—it’s a mindset.
